France Edge Into Euro 2024 Semis After Shootout Win Over Portugal
France booked their place into the semi-finals of Euro 2024 with a penalty shoot-out win over Portugal after a tetchy 0-0 draw in 120 minutes.
Hugo Lloris saved the decisive penalty from Joao Felix to send France through to the last four, where they will face either England or Spain.
The game was a tight and tense affair, with few clear-cut chances for either side. Portugal had the better of the first half, but France improved after the break and had the best chances to win the game in normal time.
Kylian Mbappe hit the post with a free-kick in the second half, while Karim Benzema had a goal ruled out for offside. Portugal also had their chances, with Cristiano Ronaldo going close on a number of occasions.
The game went to a penalty shoot-out, and France held their nerve to win 5-3. Lloris saved the first two Portuguese penalties, from Bruno Fernandes and Joao Mario, to give France the advantage.
France will now face either England or Spain in the semi-finals, while Portugal are eliminated from the tournament.
